April 1, 2026Drivers, be ready. Roadcheck is coming.
The CVSA International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 12–14, 2026, and commercial vehicle enforcement will be active across North America during this 72-hour inspection initiative.
This year’s Roadcheck will focus on two major areas:
Driver Focus: ELD tampering, falsification, and manipulation
Vehicle Focus: Load securement
During Roadcheck, inspectors may review driver records, hours-of-service compliance, ELD usage, cargo securement, vehicle condition, and other safety requirements. Drivers should be prepared before they hit the road.
What Drivers Should Review Before Roadcheck
ELD and Hours-of-Service Compliance
Drivers should make sure logs are current, accurate, certified, and free of pending edits before driving. Be especially careful with duty status changes, personal conveyance, yard moves, unassigned miles, and any incorrect or missing record-of-duty information.
Common ELD and HOS issues include:
Improper duty status
Fueling while off duty
Misuse of personal conveyance or yard move
Driving while off duty
Disconnected ELDs
Unassigned or unidentified miles
Failure to certify logs
Missing trailer number, BOL/shipping ID, or city/state changes
Even small mistakes can lead to violations, and falsified records can result in out-of-service orders.
Load Securement
Drivers should also carefully inspect all cargo securement before departure and during the trip. Cargo must be secured to prevent movement in any direction, and all straps, chains, ropes, webbing, load bars, dunnage, and securement devices must be properly rated and free from damage.
Before departure, drivers should verify:
Proper number of tiedowns
Correct working load limit
Tiedowns are tight and secure
Cargo does not shift with minimum hand pressure
Straps, chains, and devices are not torn or damaged
Cargo inside van trailers is secured against movement
Heavy equipment over 10,000 pounds has the required securement points
Drivers should also remember that cargo securement inspections are required within the first 50 miles of a trip, then every 150 miles, every 3 hours, or at every change of duty status — whichever comes first.
Don’t Get Caught Off Guard
Roadcheck is not the time to discover log errors, unsecured cargo, damaged straps, or missing documentation. Take time now to review your ELD, confirm your HOS compliance, inspect your equipment, and secure every load properly.
At Swivel, safety and compliance matter every mile.
